The Estate and Winery

Vitivinicola Alberto Loi was created at the end of the Forties by Alberto Loi. The present owners, Alberto Loi’s sons and daugther, are the third generation of the family devoted to the production of Cannonau wine.

The estate is situated in Ogliastra, the Eastern-central region of Sardinia, stretching from the massive Gennargentu down to the sea, the best “terroir” of the Cannonau wine. More precisely, in the countryside of Cardedu, a few km from Jerzu. The estate covers an irregular surface of about fifty hectares.

The grape variety prevalently cultivated is Cannonau. The vineyard is organized in 3 wide “cru”. “Sa Mola cru” is situated in the North of the Estate. It is a level ground and the largest. “Cardedo cru” is situated just at the foot of hills while “Delle Riserve cru” is in the middle and the top of hills. The most important wines are produced from the grapes of “Delle Riserve cru”.

“Alberto Loi” owns in the countryside of Jerzu and Sarrabus (in the south) other vineyards planted with white and red grapes typical of Sardinia as Vermentino, Nuragus, Monica, Carignano, Cagnulari, Moscato, Nasco. The soil, from schist and granitic breakdown, is sandy and rich in minerals. The climate is typically Mediterranean: sunny, breezy with low rainfall.

The winery is built on distinct levels, partly aboveground and partly underground. The central body is the original nucleus built by Alberto Loi, in the Fifties (using granite extracted from his own estate).

In 1990 The current owners, the sons of Alberto Loi restructured and technologically renewed the winery.
